The myVPN client has been upgraded from Cisco AnyConnect version 2.5 to Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility version 3.1. This new version provides support for Windows 8 and Mac OS X 10.8 operating systems.
Existing myVPN service users will be automatically upgraded to the new version the next time a VPN connection is initiated. New users should follow the installation instructions below.
myVPN Setup Documents
Below are the setup documents for various operating systems and mobile devices. Please note any specific information for your device or operating system.
To connect to the myVPN service, you will require the following information:
VPN server: myvpn.ubc.ca
Username: your CWL username
Password: your CWL password
Installation Notes
- Administrator access is required for the initial installation of the myVPN client software. Please follow the automatic or manual installation instructions listed below for more information.
- Existing myVPN clients will be automatically updated the next time a VPN connection is made.
- myVPN service is provided using hardware and software provided by Cisco. The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client version 3.1 is supported on the latest operating systems only. Users running older operating systems may connect to myVPN service by running the older client, Cisco AnyConnect Client version 2.5. Please follow the instructions listed in the Unsupported Operating Systems section below

The myVPN Service relies on the Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client version 3.1 to provide connectivity. The operating systems listed below are supported by UBC IT. Compatible Operating Systems
The following list of operating systems is supported by Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client 3.1, unless otherwise specified
- Microsoft Windows:

- Windows 8 32 & 64-bit
- Limitations to AnyConnect Support for Windows 8
- AnyConnect is not supported on Windows RT.
- Other third-party product's incompatibility with Windows 8 prevent AnyConnect from establishing a VPN connection over wireless networks.
Here are two examples of this problem:- WinPcap service "Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental)" distributed with Wireshark does not support Windows 8.
To work around this problem, uninstall Wireshark or disable the WinPcap service, reboot your Windows 8 computer, and attempt the AnyConnect connection again. - Outdated wireless cards or wireless card drivers that do not support Windows 8 prevent AnyConnect from establishing a VPN connection.
To work around this problem, make sure you have the latest wireless network cards or drivers that support Windows 8 installed on your Windows 8 computer.
- WinPcap service "Remote Packet Capture Protocol v.0 (experimental)" distributed with Wireshark does not support Windows 8.
- AnyConnect is not integrated with the new UI framework, written in the Metro design language, that is deployed on Windows 8; however,
AnyConnect does run on Windows 8 in desktop mode.

- Windows Mobile and Windows Phone: Not Supported
- AnyConnect 3.0+ does not support Microsoft Windows Mobile or Windows Phone platforms
