Overview
UBC hosts several wireless networks to support students, faculty and staff on campus and at partner institutions. Visit the links below to find out which wireless network will best support your needs.
ubcsecure
"ubcsecure" uses WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) Enterprise and 802.1x for an encrypted and secure wireless connection.
This wireless network is available to everybody within the UBC community with a valid student, faculty, or staff CWL account.
eduroam
The "eduroam" network is a collaborative network that provides students, staff and faculty roaming wireless access at partner institutions. Users authenticate using the same credentials as they would at their home institution.
ubcprivate
"ubcprivate" is the wireless extension of the Virtual Networks service and allows authorized users to be placed directly into their department's own network and security domain.
Please note that this wireless network is only available to UBC community members affiliated with departments that have their own virtual network.
ubcvisitor
"ubcvisitor" is a public wireless network service available for guests visiting on the UBC campus. Some restrictions apply. We encourage staff, faculty, and students to use ubcsecure as their default UBC network.
ShawOpen
The ShawOpen Wireless Network is now available for ShawGo WiFi customers at the UBC Point Grey, Robson Square, and Okanagan campuses. This will include extended coverage in all outdoor and indoor space for all wireless networks.
The ShawOpen WiFi Network will appear in your available wireless networks on campus along with ubcsecure, eduroam, ubcvisitor, and ubcprivate. Shaw Communications documentation on how to connect can be found on the Shaw website.
For technical support, please contact Shaw directly at 1-888-407-0251 or visit their FAQ page.
Wireless Device Registration System
The Wireless Device Registration System allows residential multimedia and gaming devices to be pre-registered to connect to the ubcvisitor Wireless.
