Wireless VoIP Service

Please note that the WiFi trial service is now completed. We will be officially offering this service under the name of 'WiTel' (Wireless Telephony) in late Summer / early Fall 2009.

Description

UBC IT's Wireless VoIP service allows you to use Wi-Fi phones on the UBC Wireless network, offering unlimited talk time on campus. The UBC Wireless network and Cisco VoIP network infrastructures are used to support this service.

The first phase of this service will support the Cisco 7921G wireless phone. The next phases will evaluate lower cost handsets which are soon to be available on the Canadian market. However, UBC IT cannot guarantee that these third party products will operate or be supportable on the network.

Our Network Operations Centre monitors and troubleshoots network problems 24 hours a day, with service problems being resolved during business hours.

UBC IT has a companion project in progress to expand wireless network services over the outdoor spaces and will work with you on your specific areas.

Who can use this service?

UBC Faculty and Staff - please contact your Department Voice Administrator to place an order for voice service.
