This document explains how to connect to Netinfo/Interchange using the SSH Secure Shell provided by SSH Communications Security Corp .
Note: This document describes the setup for SSH Secure Shell 2.2.0 (Build 123). The information, however, can be easily used to setup other SSH clients, including the most recent version of SSH Secure Shell, 3.2. The SSH website has an evaluation version available for download.
Making a Connection with SSH
- In SSH Secure Shell, hit the Enter key or Spacebar to begin.
- Enter the following into the dialog box that comes up.
- In the Host Name field, enter: interchange.ubc.ca
- In the User Name field, enter in your Netinfo/Interchange username (the portion of your email address before @interchange.ubc.ca)
- In the Password field, enter in your CWL password.
- Note: This field is case sensitive, so make sure that the CAPSLOCK is off before you type.
- Upon connection, you will be prompted about "your default terminal type." If it is not set to VT100, follow the on-screen instructions to change the Terminal Type to VT100. Otherwise, hit Enter to continue. (The ANSI terminal type may work, but if the main menu is garbled, try logging in again and selecting VT100 as the terminal type.)
- You should see the Netinfo main screen, as shown below. Navigate the menus using your keyboard arrow keys to access your Email, manage the files in your home directory or to check your Account Status.
- To disconnect, hit the Q key or select EXIT when in the main screen; alternatively, go to the File menu and select Disconnect.
