If you run a scanning program and are found to be scanning UBC or the internet, you will have your ResNet port disabled. You will be required to disable this before your port is re-enabled. This policy was put into effect for the following reasons:
- Scanning overloads ResNet resources (including bandwidth).
- Scanning leads to system compromises and resulting problems including worms, viruses, and denial of service attacks.
- If scanning is not controlled from UBC, other sites will blacklist UBC address space.
Please note that no other filesharing method (such as FTP, Kazaa, Bit Torrent or other peer-to-peer file sharing programs) have been blocked.
