LDAP Setup - Windows - Outlook 98

For Outlook 98, there are two different procedures for setting up and using LDAP, as follows:

  1. This procedure only applies if you have installed Outlook98 with the Internet Mail Only option. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see Internet Mail Only if you have this option installed.

If this is the case then the LDAP setup procedure is identical to that for Outlook Express.

  2. This procedure only applies if you have installed Outlook98 with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, on the Help menu click About Microsoft Outlook. In About Microsoft Outlook you should see Corporate or Workgroup if you have this option installed. If this is the case then the Corporate LDAP service component of Outlook needs to be installed.

The Corporate LDAP service is included on the Office Update Web site and in the ValuPack on the Outlook 98 CD-ROM. To install the service from the ValuPack follow these steps:

  • Insert the Outlook 98 compact disc in the CD-ROM drive on your computer.
  • On the desktop, double-click the My Computer icon and then double-click the CD-ROM drive.
  • Double-click the Valupack folder and then double-click the Corpldap folder.
  • Install the Corporate LDAP service by double-clicking O98ldap.exe
  • Complete the installation by clicking Yes to continue and clicking Yes to accept the Licence Agreement.
  • Click OK when the installation is complete and restart the computer.

You can also download and install the Microsoft LDAP Directory Service (their name for Corporate LDAP service) for Outlook 98 from the Microsoft LDAP site.

Once the LDAP component has been installed from either the CD or the Internet, the setup instructions are identical to the ones for Outlook 2000.
