Sophos Anti-Virus
UBC’s IT Security Office requires all students living in residence and using the ResNet or ResWireless network to have an anti-virus program installed on their PC or laptop.
If you do not already have an anti-virus program installed, you can obtain a copy of Sophos Anti-Virus for free using the UBC IT Software Download Site. Please note that the Mac versions of Sophos are not yet available.
You will need a Campus-Wide Login (CWL) login name and password. If you do not already have a CWL login, learn more about the service and sign up - please choose your login name carefully, as this will form part of your UBC email address. To get your free CWL login name you must be a registered UBC student, and have a valid student ID. Remember your CWL login name and password as you will need it to access many campus services, such as our Wireless network and Webmail.
NOTE: If you already have an anti-virus program installed, you must sure that your virus definition files are up to date prior to your arrival and kept up to date during your stay on campus. If you cannot update your current anti-virus program, you can download and install Sophos. If you choose to do this, you must uninstall your current anti-virus program before installing Sophos. Once installed, Sophos will keep itself up to date by downloading and installing updates, using your internet connection.
