UBC-Wide Campus Agreement for Microsoft Products

Overview

As of April 2010, UBC entered the UBC Wide Campus Agreement with Microsoft. This agreement allows UBC computers to be licensed for commonly used Microsoft software, including Microsoft operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite. Many faculties and departments have opted into this campus agreement.

UBC will be entering into a UBC Wide Campus Agreement with Microsoft as of April 1, 2010. The campus agreement will allow UBC computers to be licensed for commonly used Microsoft software, saving UBC money, and also ensuring that we are legally compliant across the University under the terms of Microsoft’s licensing agreements. By covering all of UBC's equipment, we also remove the burden of license tracking and acquisition from UBC IT staff. The agreement will cover the following products:

  • Windows OS upgrade (currently Windows 7 enterprise)
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Office Professional for Windows and Office 2008 for Mac)
  • Microsoft Visio Professional
  • Microsoft Project Professional
  • Windows Server Client Access License (CAL)

Many faculties and departments have opted into a campus agreement over the past 2 years. UBC currently covers about 1/3 to 1/2 of the campus under existing agreements. By entering into a UBC-Wide agreement, all departments will be able to share in the benefits.

Departments who have entered into a campus agreement report the following benefits:

  • Significantly reduced costs for core Microsoft products
  • Full legal compliance for the core Microsoft products
  • All staff and faculty have access to the latest tools including Home Use Rights and E-Learning benefits
  • Significant reduction in the overhead of purchasing and distributing software
  • Significant reduction of the management and administration of core Microsoft software
  • All university owned equipment is covered, including research machines
