Overview
Due to several educational and technology drivers, the UBC community required a more flexible Course Management system to handle increased course demand, user activity, infrastructure scalability and updated technologies for the changing Student/Instructor expectations.
As WebCT CE 4.1 product life cycle was coming to an end, the recommendation from the Vista Pilot project in January, 2005 was to upgrade from WebCT CE 4.1 to WebCT Vista.
The WebCT Vista Upgrade project which began in June 2006 was successfully completed by Spring 2010. All UBC online courses are now running in a central environment hosted by UBC IT.
Project deliverables:
- Implementation of an enterprise Learning Management System where the infrastructure would be scalable to handle demand and growth
- Course conversion/migration of all active courses that resided in WebCT CE 4.1 to WebCT Vista
- Ongoing operational support for the new WebCT Vista environment Redevelopment of custom software for WebCT Vista, Student Information System and CWL integration
In partnership with the Centre of Teaching, Learning and Technology (CTLT), UBC IT continues to work with the UBC Community in improving Instructional technologies for the online learning environment.
